Preventative Care

Many major dental issues can easily be prevented with routine checks by Dr. Denton! We want you to be happy and healthy, but major changes can develop over a short period of time. During your regular recall visits, we look for the development of decay, gum disease, infection, oral cancer and other potential roadblocks to a healthy,  beautiful smile.

Oral Cancer Screenings

We routinely look for signs of cancer or precancerous conditions during your regular exams. We will only recommend additional tests to identify abnormal cells if we feel there is a valid concern.

Factors that can increase your risk of oral cancer include:

  • Previous oral cancer diagnosis
  • History of significant sun exposure (increases the risk of lip cancer)
  • Tobacco use of any kind: cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco and snuff
  • Heavy alcohol use

Dental X-rays

The first step in preventive oral hygiene is knowing where you stand with your current dental health. Dental X-Rays give our team an in depth look into the health of your teeth, inside and out. Technology has come a long way, so the radiation used in our digital dental x-ray exam is extraordinarily low, about the same level of exposure as a 2 hour airplane flight! As a precaution, however, we still conduct all safety protocols to keep our team and our patients safe in the process.

Professional Cleanings

Professional cleanings are highly encouraged at least every 6 months. Have you ever wondered why? Regular hygiene visits are the hallmark of prevention of gum disease, bad breath, decay, and more! There are many places that are hard to clean with regular brushing or flossing, only a dental professional has the tools and experience to reach these areas. Our team of experts will help you prevent small problems from becoming big problems.

Sedation

We understand that going to the dentist can be scary. We want to remove fear as a barrier to your dental care. Our sedation options will safely put you in a relaxed state, and many patients report having no memory of the procedure afterwards. Ask us if sedation might be right for you.

TMJ Treatment

In health, our chewing muscles, joints, and teeth work together harmoniously without pain. However, in the presence of disease, unwanted stresses can cause pain and dysfunction in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). This dysfunction can be caused by many things including clenching, grinding, trauma, or a broken down dentition. Dr Denton and his team have the experience necessary to bring back balance to your TMJ.

Sealants

Sealants are an excellent preventive treatment for children. A sealant is a tooth-colored coating placed on the biting surface of back teeth. This seals the grooves and pits to help prevent decay. Sealants are a painless way to help children get a head start on decay prevention!

Pediatric Care

Our team wants to take excellent care of your entire family, including children. We make their visit comforting and fun, so they will not grow up with dental fears! Maintaining healthy baby teeth creates good hygiene habits at a young age, and is important for the proper development and eruption of the permanent dentition.
